Who is Mamadou Kaboré?
1 1/2 years ago we were in Burkina Faso with the Banda Internationale from Dresden, a fantastic trip - there I met Mamadou. Mamadou is a very great guy, musician, instrument maker, painter and craftsman, single father of 2 children from Bobo Diaoulasso on the border with Mali. In October 2018 he gave me his Ngoni (stringed instrument from Mali / Burkina Faso) as a present and since then we have been in contact, have made friends and he even became my Whatsapp Ngoni teacher. The Ngoni is the stringed instrument that you can hear and see in the song.

A few weeks ago I received a message from him, that the situation was very difficult for them because Lockdown was also prescribed there, which is very difficult to implement because life takes place mainly on the street. Since my friend, like many Burkinabé, is not so liquid at the moment, and the question really is with him and his children: can we still buy basic food (import rice / beans) next month? - he asked me for help.
He relies on the local market to offer instruments, labor or other services. As described in the song by him, the markets are closed. For someone who fled the war in Ghana a few years ago, he does not have the family clan networks as locally born have and so he always has to struggle quite a lot, especially with the consequences of poverty.

The song and fundraising:
He sent me a song via Whatsapp, recorded on his cell phone, where he implemented the corona situation musically, with his ngoni and vocals and his children singing the chorus, as can be seen in the video.
I loved the song. I suggested him, let´s take some action out of it and I built a remix to collect money at the same time,thus giving friends in Europe and America the opportunity to support him, his children and his community on the spot, so the basic stuff (food) would be secured for the next few months. He thought the idea was good. And Voilá, that's what came out.

Wer ist Mamadou Kaboré?
Vor 1 1/2h Jahren waren wir mit der Banda Internationale aus Dresden in Burkina Faso, eine fantastische Reise – dort lernte ich Mamadou kennen. Mamadou ist ein sehr toller Typ, Musiker, Instrumentenbauer, Maler und Handwerker, alleinerziehender Vater von 2 Kindern aus Bobo Diaoulasso an der Grenze zu Mali. Im Oktober 2018 überließ er mir seine Ngoni (SaitenInstrument aus Mali/Burkina Faso) für nen Appel und n Ei und seitdem sind wir in Kontakt, haben uns angefreundet und er wurde sogar mein Whatsapp Ngoni Lehrer. Die Ngoni ist das Saiteninstrument, welches ihr im Lied hören und sehen könnt.
Vor ein paar Wochen erreichte mich eine Nachricht von ihm, dass die Situation bei ihnen sehr schwierig sei, weil auch dort Lockdown verordnet wurde, was recht schwer umzusetzen ist, weil das Leben sich dort vor allem auf der Straße abspielt. Da mein Freund, wie viele Burkinabé, momentan nicht so liquide ist, und es bei ihm und seinen Kindern tatsächlich um die Frage geht: können wir nächsten Monat noch Grundnahrungsmittel (ImportReis/Bohnen) kaufen? - bat er mich um Hilfe.

Er ist auf den lokalen Markt angewiesen um Instrumente, Arbeitskraft oder sonstige Dienstleistungen anzubieten. Wie im Lied von Ihm beschriebn sind die Märkte zu, es herrscht Ausgangsperre und als jemand der vor einigen Jahren vor dem Krieg in Ghana geflohen war, hat er nicht so die Familienclannetzwerke wie lokal Geborene und muss immer ganz schön kämpfen, vor allem mit den Folgen der Armut.

Das Lied und die Aktion:
Er schickte mir ein Lied per Whatsapp, auf seinem Handy aufgenommen, wo er die Corona Situation musikalisch umsetzte, mit seiner Ngoni und Gesang und seinen Kindern die den Refrain singen, so ungefähr wie im Video zusehen ist.
Ich fand das Lied superschön. Ich habe ihm vorgeschlagen eine Aktion daraus zu machen, und einen Remix zu bauen um gleichzeitig mit dem Song Gelder zu sammeln, und somit den Freunden in Europa und Amerika die Möglichkeit zu geben Ihn, seine Kinder und seine Community vor Ort zu unterstützen, damit in den nächsten Monate wenigstens die Lebensgrundlage (Essen) erstmal abgesichert ist. Er fand die Idee gut. Und Voilá, das ist was rausgekommen ist.
